FUNK YO SELF, the album! After all these years, Funk Yo Self will release their debut album. Come enjoy the fruits of our labour with a night of music, featuring the incomparable Anh Phung doing a set of solo flute, as well as the Souls of Black Folk collective, featuring some of Toronto's best musicians!

Funk Yo Self is a high energy and sophisticated party-band sensation hailing from the Outaouais region. Funk Yo Self keeps fans reeling with their unique blend of psychedelic, funk and jazz fusion.

Performing in clubs from Toronto to Montreal, in the Ottawa Jazz Fest, as well as different festivals across Ontario and Quebec, their superbly executed, unassailable grooves, and unstoppable energy keeps the dance floor FUNKIN' all Night-long! Their sound is influenced and reminiscent of James Brown, Jamiroquai, the late era Miles Davis, and Lettuce, making their live performance one of the most original, funkiest, and soulful musical experiences in the country. 

Anh Phung:

“Anh Phung is a shining example of the modern musician: as a child, she earned her virtuosity while sweeping flute contests across Canada, and has since used her mastery of the flute as a compass to navigate countless styles of music, constantly learn new instruments and consistently deliver exciting performances. Not bothered by the conventions and standard limitations of the flute, her powerful musical voice steers her through everything from hip-hop to bluegrass to Bulgarian folk music, and she is the leader of prog-rock tribute band Tullstars and performance art act Hairbrain.

SOBF: Souls of Black folk, an all black Neo-soul music collective dedicated to elevating soul music and black musicianship in our city.
